| On the 7th November 2008 a probable Steppe Grey Shrike was
reported at Grainthorpe Haven in Lincolnshire.. Not being a twitcher I
didn't pay this too much attention as I was laid up with a recurring back
problem at the time. However on the 20th November 2008
it was still reported in the same place and seeing as it was only a
forty minute drive from me I
decided with a couple of birding mates to try to get a few photographs of it. As far as I'm
aware this is the first record of a Steppe Grey Shrike for
Lincolnshire. This bird was the
most confiding wild bird I have ever seen. It wasn't at all
bothered by the birders and would approach us within inches often
sitting on the heads of the birders and their equipment.
Getting decent photographs wasn't a problem and we spent around two
and a half hours photographing it and chatting to other birders.
Shown below are a few of the photographs I took, just click on
any thumbnail to be taken to a larger photograph.
